I took this course during my second semester at SCSU. I learned many new techniques and enjoyed the somewhat abstract design processes.
Portrait of a Roman
[January 2002 / Canson® paper on illustration board. 6"x 6" ]
This portrait is actually from a photograph I took of a bust of a Roman man that I saw in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
It Is Finished!
[February 2002 / Canson® paper on illustration board. 6"x 6".]
Metamorphosis
[February 2002 / Canson® paper on illustration board, all 6" x 6"]
This and the next four panels were my final black-and-white project in 2-D Design.
I made the F-16 image quite easily by making a printout from L3Lab (see LDraw.org) of my F-16 LDraw file, tracing it onto the black paper, and cutting it out
Low and High Relief
[March 2002 / Pen and Ink, 11.5" x 6"]
It was interesting figuring out how to represent high relief; my professor wouldn't tell me how.
He Is Risen!
[April 2002 / Collage: newspaper on paper, 9" x 12"]
I believe the Lord was directing my creation of this collage. "e is risen" came from an ad for a contraceptive, "PEACE" and "DEATH" came from an ad for the band Megadeth. Found in the text in the cross are these words: AIDS, Magics, Souls, more evil, Wars, Punishment, blood, killing, cross, beliefs, Peace, and coffin. The symbolism is that all these bad things were paid for when Jesus died on the cross.
Congregational Church
[April 2002 / Collage, 9" x 12"]
Death Is Swallowed up in Victory
[May 2002 / Acrylic on Illustration Board, 7" x 7"]
This series of six panels was my final project in Color & 2-D Design, expanding on the black and white It Is Finished!
The sixth panel is a computer print-out on illustration board.
For this I made the image in MLCad using quads and triangles, and printed screen to make a bitmap image. I imported that into Microsoft Word and added the text.
